If the robot is ever displaying odd behavior, it is best to try some basic troubleshooting. The page below outlines quick and easy ways to troubleshoot the robot.

The Robot is Spraying Debris

There are two common reasons the robot may be spraying debris:

1. The bag as full and needs to be replaced. Please follow the steps in How to Change the Bag for instructions on how to do this.
2. The suspension is set too high and needs to be adjusted. Your robot's suspension should have been set during onboarding. Contact TAILOS to have the suspension readjusted.

The Roller is Not Turning

• Check that the battery is properly seated and fully charged.
• Check that the robot power switch is turned on.

There are two common reasons the roller could be failing:

1. The Roller Electrical Connector is making poor contact.
   • If the roller constantly turns on and off, that normally means the Connector is making poor contact. If this is the case, then the full robot will need further attention. Please return the robot to TAILOS for service.
2. The Roller is stalling (i.e. the roller is working too hard). 
   
   • If the roller will not turn on at all or feels hot, then it is most likely stalling. 
   • Try cleaning out the Roller. This process is explained in the How to Inspect and Clean the Roller article.
   • The suspension might be set too low. This causes the roller to rub up against floors and carpeting unnecessarily. Contact TAILOS to have the suspension readjusted.

Wheels are not Spinning

• Check that the battery is properly seated and fully charged.
• Check that the robot power switch is turned on.
• If the Wheel is not spinning, try inspecting and cleaning it. Follow the steps in How to Care for the Wheels for instructions on how to do this.
• If none of the Wheels are spinning (but the Screen and other electrical systems are still lighting up and working), please contact TAILOS to have the robot serviced.

The Impeller is Not Turning

• Check that the battery is properly seated and fully charged.
• Check that the robot power switch is turned on.
• If the Impeller is not spinning whatsoever, please contact TAILOS to have the robot serviced.

Nothing is Working or Lighting Up

• Make sure that a fully charged battery is plugged in. You can check that a battery is fully charged by tapping the LED indicators. If the LED indicators are Green it is fully charged. If they are yellow, they are partially charged. If they are Red or do not light up at all, the battery is dead. 
• Make sure that the battery is fully pushed into the battery bay. 
• Make sure that the Power Switch is in the “ON” position. 
• If the robot will still not turn on, please contact TAILOS to have the robot serviced.

It is important to take good care of your robot. Each subsystem requires certain Preventative Maintenance (PM) to keep them in good order. This schedule provides the manufacturer's recommended frequency for maintenance. The step-by-step instructions to complete this maintenance can be found in the Maintenance Section. 

Schedule

After long periods of use, the roller can become jammed. When that is the case, you simply need to disassemble it and remove any debris that is causing the jam. Additionally, the robot manufacturer recommends cleaning the roller out regularly (roughly every quarter) in order to extend the roller motor's lifetime. 

Instructions

Remove the Brush Roller

1. Turn off power to the robot with the switch located under the corner next to the battery compartment.
   

2. Remove the battery.
    

3. Turn the robot on its RIGHT side.

4. Locate the Roller at the front of the robot.
      

5. Loosen and remove the 4x screws using a Phillips 1 screwdriver. Set the screws aside.
   

6. Slide the Roller Retainers out and pivot them out of the way.
   NOTE - The retainers will remain attached to the robot.
   

7. Carefully remove the Full Brush Roller from the Intake.
   CAUTION - Make sure you do not drop the Inner Roller Core out of the Outer Brush while removing.
   

Disassemble and Clean 

1. Pull the Inner Roller Core out of the Outer Brush and set aside.
   
2. Look for any debris or hair around the outside of the Outer Brush. Remove any visible debris. Cut and remove any hair that has wrapped around the Outer Brush.
3. Locate the bearing on the far end of the Outer Brush.
   

4. Remove any hair or debris that is wrapped around the bearing. Make sure the Plastic Slider and the bearing can move freely. 

5. Check the bristles for any damage or excessive wear. If the bristles are damaged, replace the Outer Brush.

6. Check the Outer Brush for any cracks or damage. If the plastic is broken, replace the Outer Brush.

7. Set the Outer Brush aside.

8. Look for any debris wrapped around the Inner Roller Core. Remove any debris or hair.

9. Locate the bearing and O-ring in the Inner Roller Core.
   

10. Make sure the O-ring is seated properly into the groove.

11. Make sure the bearing can rotate freely.

12. Locate the Rubber Driver at the end of the Inner Roller Core.
    

13. Turn it slightly to make sure the Roller motor is still able to move.

14. Make sure the set screw on the side of the Rubber Driver is tight. If you need to re-tighten it, make sure the spacing matches the spacer jig as shown. Use a 1.5mm hex driver.
    

Re-assemble the Brush Roller

1. Slide the Inner Roller Core back into the Outer Brush. Make sure the Rubber Driver is properly aligned to the geometry inside on the roller as you slide it in. Be careful as you slide in the O-ring to make sure that the O-ring does not get displaced.
   

2. Insert the Full Brush Roller into the Intake. Make sure the sliders on both sides are aligned.
    

3. Pivot and slide the Roller Retainers into the Intake.

4. Tighten the 4x screws using a Phillips 1 screwdriver.
    

5. Place the robot back on the floor.
   

The roller is an essential part of vacuuming. The robot uses this part to disturb debris embedded in the carpet and vacuum it up. The robot has on-board diagnostics that trigger the Maintenance Screen (a picture of a wrench) when something is wrong with the roller. If the roller has been cleared of debris, these steps are a safe option for fixing other roller issues.

Instructions

Remove the Brush Roller

1. Turn off power to the robot with the switch located under the corner next to the battery compartment.
   

2. Remove the battery.
    

3. Turn the robot over so that you can access the roller(located at the front of the robot).

4. Loosen and remove the 4 screws using a Phillips 1 screwdriver. Take out the retainers. Set the screws and the retainers aside.
   

5. Carefully remove the Full Brush Roller from the Intake.
   CAUTION - Make sure you do not drop the Inner Roller Core out of the Outer Brush while removing.
   

Disassemble and Readjust 

1. Carefully pull the roller core from within the roller brush.
   
2. Unscrew the motor screw (located on the spider coupler end of the roller core) about half a turn.
   

3. Optional: If you have Loctite, completely remove the spider coupler screw and apply blue Loctite 242 to 3/4s of the screw and screw it back in. Otherwise continue to the next step.

Re-assemble the Brush Roller

1. Slide the roller core back into the roller brush. You may need to twist the assembly until the spider coupler lines up properly.
   

2. Check the the roller's fit with the bot. It should have a slight resistance against the side walls as it is being installed. If this is not the case, repeat the steps in Disassemble and Readjust until the proper fit is reached.
   

3. Re-position the roller retainers and screw with the 4 Phillips screws.
   

4. Flip the robot back over and you're ready to roll!
   
   

After long periods of use, the wheels might require maintenance. Tailos recommends inspecting and cleaning the wheels at least every 3 months in order to extend the lifetime of the wheel motors.

Instructions

Removing the Wheel Pods

1. Turn off the robot using the switch located under the corner next to the battery compartment and remove the battery.
   
   

2. Turn the robot on its side and unscrew the 2x Wheel Pod Retainers on each side of one of the Wheel Pods using a Phillips 1 screwdriver.
   

3. Set the Wheel Pod Retainers and the screws aside. Do not lose them.

4. Slide the first Wheel Pod out.
   

Inspection

1. Remove any visible debris or hair stuck within the wheel rollers. 

2. Push the Inner Motor Pod up. It should move freely and easily and spring back up when pushed. 

   • If the Inner Motor does not spring back up, or feels stiff or stuck, you will need a replacement Wheel Pod of the same orientation.

3. Try and shake the wheel up and down (toward the inner wall of the Wheel Pod).

   • If you are able to completely move the wheel back and forth, you will need a replacement Wheel Pod of the same orientation.

4. Inspect the rubber on the Wheels. Rotate the wheel so that you can get a good look at all the rollers.

   • If the rubber on these rollers is worn, you will need a replacement Wheel Pod of the same orientation.

5. Inspect the cable connected to the back of the motor. Make sure it is in good condition and not worn.

6. Inspect the inside of the empty Wheel Pod slot on the robot. The connector should be in good condition. If this connector is missing or damaged, contact Tailos Support.

Re-installing the Wheel Pods

Each Wheel Pod is marked with either L(Left) or R(Right). The position of the connector on the Wheel Pod indicates whether a Wheel Pod is L or R.

The wheels should be aligned to form a diamond using the direction of the wheel rollers shown in the image below. 

1. Re-insert the correct wheel pod into the slot carefully, making sure that the connector on the Wheel Pod lines up with the connector on the robot.

2. Align the 2x holes on the first Wheel Pod Retainer with the 2x holes on the robot body and tighten the 2x screws using a Phillips 1 screwdriver.

3. Align the 2x holes on the second Wheel Pod Retainer with the 2x holes on the robot body and tighten the 2x screws using a Phillips 1 screwdriver.

4. Repeat all the steps in this article for the remaining 3 Wheel Pods.

The Intake Skirt is a very important part and if it has a large tear in it, the robot will not clean as well. It is important to inspect the Intake Skirt regularly. If it has any large tears or if it is excessively worn, it is best to replace it. This will ensure that your robot is vacuuming as best as possible. 

Instructions

1. Turn off power to the robot with the switch located under the corner next to the battery compartment.
   

2. Remove the battery.
   

3. Locate the Intake Skirt.
   

4. Turn the robot on its side.
   

5. Make sure the intake skirt is properly mounted onto the screw heads and it is not disconnected at any point.

6. Look for any wear or tear on the Intake Skirt. If it is damaged, replace it using the procedure below

7. Unscrew all 11x screws using a P1 driver. Set these screws aside and do not lose them.

8. Remove the Intake Retainer. Set aside and do not lose.

9. Discard the old skirt.

10. Insert the skirt retainer into the skirt and align them together.
    

11. Take 1x 95911A118 M2 x 0.40 mm Thread, 8mm Long screw and align it with the outermost hole on the INT-P008, BDY-P056, INT-P018, and the intake. Tighten the screw. Tighten the screw using a P1 driver. Do not over-tighten. If the rubber starts bowing outward, then the screw is too tight. You should slightly loosen it.

    HALF CIRCLES POINT IN TOWARD THE ROLLER.

    

12. Take 1x 95911A118 M2 x 0.40 mm Thread, 8mm Long screw and align it with the OTHER outermost hole on the INT-P008, BDY-P056, and the intake. Tighten the screw using a P1 driver.
    

13. Now take the remaining 9x 95911A118 M2 x 0.40 mm Thread, 8mm Long screws, align with the holes and tighten them. Tighten the screws using a P1 driver.

This document provides networking details that ensure your Tailos robot can successfully connect to Tailos services.

Benefits

While your robot can vacuum spaces without the need to connect the internet, doing so will provide the following benefits:

• Data Collection - Your robot transmits data about its cleaning performance each time it is being used. Transmission of this data allows Tailos and your team to know just how much and how well Rosie has cleaned.
• Notifications - Your robot must be connected to the internet to transmit data and is necessary for SMS notifications for you and your team.
• Software Updates - We routinely enhance your robot’s software and can deliver these improvements over-the-air. Staying connected to the internet ensures your robot will keep up-to-date with the latest software improvements.
• Diagnostics - Our team of experts is constantly monitoring your robot’s diagnostic data. Doing so allows us to reach out to your team proactively to ensure your robot is always in top shape.

Requirements

Network security is critical for robot operations at your facility. Below you will find the minimum requirements for secure access of your robots to your network.

Secure Network Access

Robots must be able to connect to a local WiFi network at your property. While this may be a pre-existing network, we recommend creating a separate isolated network for maximum security.

If using a pre-existing network, captive portals are commonly used to secure your facility’s WiFi networks. Since this requires interaction to authenticate, this approach prevents robot access to the network. Instead, we recommend allow-listing (also known as whitelisting) based on each device’s MAC address to ensure secure access to your WiFi network.

MAC addresses can be retrieved through either of the following methods:

From the Rosie Interface.

1. Power on your robot.
2. From the home menu, tap on the Settings Icon on the top left.
3. Tap on “About Rosie.”

From the Robots page on Tailos Connect.

1. Sign in to Tailos Connect at app.tailos.io
2. The home page is the list of your Robots. Click on the three dots menu on the desired robot to view its information.

Ports

The following ports are necessary to reach our services.

DNS

Cloudflare (1.1.1.1) is the primary DNS server used by Tailos robot. Google DNS (8.8.8.8) is used as secondary DNS server. Ensure that your network does not block these DNS servers.

Endpoints

The robot will need to reach the following API endpoints to correctly transmit all data and get updates.

Verification

We provide a public script will verify connectivity with Tailos and related third-party endpoints.

You can run this on a machine connected to the same network as Tailos robots to ensure the network is configured correctly for endpoint access. Note that robots may still not be able to connect to Tailos services if other network configurations are invalid (e.g. if a robot is not allow-listed for WLAN access).

Your robot is equipped with an adjustable suspension. This makes it suitable to various types of carpets and surfaces. The wheel suspension must me adjusted to the same level on each wheel to avoid navigational issues. Use this guide to adjust the suspension setting.

Instructions

1. Power the robot off using the switch located under the corner next to the battery compartment. Then remove the battery.
   
   

2. Position the robot on its side, with the wheels that will need adjustment facing upwards.
   
   
3. Locate the release latch next to each wheel and click it back to unlock the wheel pod.
   
   
4. With caution, slide the wheel pod out and upwards to reveal the adjustment dial. Don't pull too hard. The wheel should remain attached to the robot with a wire harness.
   
   
5. Press down the dial lock and simultaneously turn the adjustment dial to set the preferred height.
   
   
   • 1 is the lowest setting, for carpets with low pile, tile, wood, or other non-carpeted surfaces. 
   • 8 is the highest setting, for thicker carpets.
6. Once the suspension is set to your desired number, ensure the dial lock is locked in.
7. Carefully reinsert the wheel back into the wheel slot on the robot.
   
   
8. Click the latch back into place to lock the wheel in.
   
   
9. Repeat these steps for each wheel, ensuring that you position the robot on its other side to access the remaining wheels.
10. Place the robot on its four wheels, insert the battery and power up to begin use!

In order for Tailos to provide the best robot support, software improvements and cleaning data, your robot needs to first be connected to the internet. Software version 1.5.2 and above allows you to configure the robot to connect to your wireless network with a few easy steps.

Instructions

1. First, you'll need a Tailos-generated QR code with your Wifi Network's credentials. To get this QR Code, get in touch with your Customer Success Manager. 
   • As an additional pre-requisite, your facility's network security protocols may require that new devices get whitelisted. To do this, reach out to your Customer Success Manager. 

2. Power on the robot. 

3. While the robot is booting up, bring up the provided QR code on your mobile device.
4. Once the Play Button is displayed, place your mobile device about 4-8 in (10-20 cm) away from the robot's camera, located at the front of the robot, just below the screen.
   
5. The LED at the top of the robot will flash with various colors during this process:
   

   Connection Status	Status Light
   Connecting	Flashing Blue
   Connected	Solid Green
   Connection Failed	Solid Red

   If the connection process fails, try again or contact our support team.
6. Once the robot had successfully connected to your Wifi network, you can begin use!
